Anonymous asked:

Is it an ADHD thing where you can usually find something fun to do but if I have plans that day I don’t know what to do with myself until I have done that thing?

abcsofadhd answered:

Yes, its common with ADHDers (and autistic people too, who I’ve seen call it ‘waiting mode’).

Specifically, that when you have plans later, you struggle to do anything else in the meantime.

Do you ever just get on autopilot while typing and write the completely wrong word?

Sometimes when my ADHD brain is moving faster than I can type, my fingers go on autopilot and I type other words that I’m more used to typing. It’s not like I hit the neighboring key, it’s just a whole other word.

Like, I’ll type “because” instead of “before” or “first” instead of “front.” I know what word I’m trying to type, but my hands will do something completely different.

I do that when I’m writing by hand!

Let's do a comparison.

What country do you live, and how much do you have to pay for your meds each month?

I'll go first.

I live in Belgium. I pay about 30€ a month.

I’m in the U.S. and I have very good insurance through my company. I pay $30 for a 100 day supply, which is 200 pills for me. I get the generic version of Adderall.

(Interestingly, when I upped my dosage from 1 pill to 2, the 100 day supply was still $30. Even though I was getting twice as many pills.)

I’m just going through all my asks and I’ve noticed that most of them are about if you can still have ADHD if you have x symptom or if you can still have ADHD if you don't have y symptom.

Here’s a rule of thumb: YES, YOU CAN.

See, how people express their ADHD symptom can differ from person to person.

So for example, while most (if not all) ADHDers have some hyperactivity, this can be expressed mentally (racing thoughts, etc) or physically.

You can have mental or physical hyperactivity or both, and this can change as you grow older.. its the same symptom, but the EXPRESSION can change.

The DSM lists 9 hyperactive and 9 inattentive symptoms, and you need to get 6/9 in either to get diagnosed as either.

And if you have 5/9 in both, you get combined type.

BUT THE THING IS, no one has just one group of symptoms.

I'm very strongly inattentive but I still have 2/9 or 3/9 hyperactive symptoms. Not enough for a combined diagnosis, but still an issue, nonetheless.

And how I, someone with predominantly inattentive symptoms, present my hyperactivity would be different to others.

It depends on things like personality, the culture you were brought up in, and other factors (your internal and external environment).

For example, I've been told by many AFAB ADHDers, that they were forced to internalize their hyperactivity cause physical hyperactive was seen as 'boyish' and they got reprimanded for it.

In conclusion, everyone ticks differently and everyone's mix of symptoms are different.

And even two people with the same mix can express them differently.

idk who needs to hear this but there is literally nothing that would be “too small” or “too insignificant” to stay alive for. You think birds are cute? Go for another day to see more of them jump around in the snow. You like hot chocolate? Wake up tomorrow to make yourself another cup. You are really into that one (objectively kinda crappy) series? Go until next Wednesday when the new episode airs. You do not always need a great purpose. If you have a small thing that can take you to the next morning? That thing is great. That thing is enough. Go get that thing.
